EHCP Reviews
At Newfriars College, every young person with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) is supported as an individual, with a clear plan that grows and changes with them as they do. The aim is simple: to help each student feel safe, understood and ready for their next steps in life.
Our EHCP progress leads are – Kylie Sharman, Samantha Gibson and Lyndsay Taylor.
EHCP reviews at Newfriars
An EHCP review is a chance to pause, look at how things are going, and talk together about what comes next. Reviews are usually held once a year and bring together the student, their family or carers, key staff, the local authority and, when helpful, other professionals who support the young person.
Student voice at the centre
The student’s views, wishes and feelings are central to every review. Staff use a friendly, person-centred approach so that learners can share what is going well, what they find difficult, and what they would like to work towards in the future.
I used to be a student at the Newfriars college, the time I spent there was the best of my life it changes my views on anything, and all of the staff are very friendly and very polite also helpful when you need the help.
Talking about progress and goals
During the review, everyone looks at progress in learning, independence skills, communication, wellbeing, work-related learning and personal development. Together, new goals are agreed that are realistic but ambitious, so that students can keep moving forwards at a pace that suits them.
Working together on next steps
EHCP reviews also help to plan for life beyond college, whether that is supported living, further education, training, volunteering or employment. Parents, carers, external agencies and the college transitions team work closely together so that each young person has a clear, carefully supported route into adulthood.
