Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging Statement

Individuals from different cultures, perspectives and experiences are at the heart of Newfriars College.

At Newfriars College, we are guided by our values in everything we do and recognise that being a diverse and inclusive College helps us fulfil our responsibility to make a difference in transforming the lives of our learners.

We seek to develop a college environment where we treat all learners, staff and stakeholders as individuals, and in a fair and consistent way.
We work within the spirit and the practice of the Equality Act 2010 by promoting a culture of respect and dignity and actively challenging discrimination, should it ever arise.

We will remove unnecessary barriers for all our learners and staff through appropriate education, training and development.
We will continue to support our college community to demonstrate the principles of equality, diversity and inclusion in their everyday activities.
Equality, diversity, inclusion, and belonging (EDIB) sits at the heart of our approach to inclusive education and is core to our purpose.

What is EDIB?

We define EDIB as follows:

  • Equality – we work on the principle that everyone is treated in a fair and equal way, and given the same opportunities.

  • Diversity – we recognise that our community of learners and staff consists of people with different identities and characteristics.

  • Inclusion – we welcome everyone, and we foster an environment where everyone is respected, celebrated and their needs are actively championed.

  • Belonging – we want everyone to feel safe and accepted, regardless of their background or other characteristics, and that they belong to both the College and the wider community.

This college really helped me when I first started on September 2024, I got to get to know new people, see familiar faces and most importantly, learn something new each day. I’m proud to represent Newfriars College at its finest.
