Transport Policy, 2026–2027

Purpose

This policy explains how transport is provided for eligible Newfriars College students during the 2026–27 academic year.

For this year, transport is only available to students who received transport funded directly by Newfriars College in 2025–26 and who are continuing their studies.

At this time, we are unable to offer College-funded transport to new students.

Our aim is to provide a safe, reliable and supportive transport service for eligible students and their families.

1. Eligibility

Important – Local Authority Transport

If your child received Local Authority–funded transport in 2025–26
(even if their journey was delivered using a Newfriars College vehicle),

you must continue to apply directly to the Local Authority for 2026–27.

This policy does not apply to Local Authority transport. Local Authority Transport requires annual applications.

Transport provided by Newfriars College in 2026–27 is only available to students who:

    • Used College-funded transport in the previous academic year (2025–26),
    • Are continuing as enrolled students at Newfriars College in 2026–27.
    • We are unable to accept applications from new students or from students previously on Local Authority-funded transport.

    2. Application Requirements

Eligible families must complete all of the following:

      • Submit the College transport application form.
      • Sign the transport agreement.
      • Pay a 10% deposit via ParentPay by the stated deadline.
      • Ensure there are no outstanding debts owed to the College.
      • Transport approval is reviewed yearly and is not automatically guaranteed.

      3. Transport Arrangements

Where approved, transport may be provided using:

      • College buses with appropriate accessibility features, or
      • College cars or MPVs, depending on individual needs and vehicle availability.
We will always aim to allocate the most safe and suitable transport option for each student.

      4. Safety and Staffing

Student safety is our highest priority. All College-provided transport:

        • Meets required safety and accessibility standards.
        • Is staffed by trained Drivers and Coach Guides with safeguarding and disability awareness training.
        • Uses staff with an enhanced DBS check.
        • Typically includes one Driver and one Coach Guide on board.

        5. Service Expectations

        Families can expect:

          • Clear communication of pick-up and drop-off times.
          • Transport waiting up to 5 minutes at the collection point.
          • Collection and return to one registered home address (unless an exceptional circumstance is approved by the safeguarding team).
          • A parent, carer, or known adult to be present at pick-up and drop-off unless agreed otherwise.
          • Requests for changes to pick-up or drop-off addresses to be emailed to transport@newfriarscollege.org.uk
          • All vehicles to carry a College mobile phone for communication with families.

          6. Student Conduct

We aim to ensure transport is a positive, calm and safe experience.
Students and families are expected to follow the College Behaviour Policy.
Any concerns will be discussed with parents and managed sensitively.

          7. Transport Fees (2026–27)

          • 5 day students: £1,300
          • 3 day students: £780
          Deposit due: 18 July 2026
Full balance due: 31 May 2027
Some families may be eligible for bursary support. Details are available in the Bursary Policy.

          8. Appeals and Complaints

If a family wishes to appeal a transport decision, they can write to the Head of College at:

          transport@newfriarscollege.org.uk

We are always happy to discuss individual circumstances and support families wherever possible.

          9. Review

This policy is reviewed annually to ensure it continues to meet student needs and reflects available resources.
